Hey everyone so I thought I’d share my very mixed experience going to a salon to get my hair dyed.

First of all the color came out gorgeous, I’m 100% satisfied with that. Everything else….left something to be desired and made me regret making the trip.

First off, when I got there I realized the price was going to be exorbitantly high, but I had already went out of my way to get there and I really wanted the change so after alot of contemplation there I decided to go for it despite the (ridiculously high) price.

Second of all when I got downstairs to the washing tables I realized they weren’t going to use Aveda color on me they were going to use another professional quality brand on me, while it was high quality, Aveda was what I researched and what I wanted so that was a major dissapointment.

Third, I felt my hair was handled roughly all day and handled improperly to the point that I probably sustained some (limited, but) unnecessary breakage as a result. My hair was left to shrink 100% and the stylist attempted to detangle my hair while slightly damp with no product so all I was hearing was snap crackle POP. I eventually stopped her and after a time just left with a mostly shrunken fro.

I came home and immediately gave my hair the TLC it deserved, gently detangled it and drenched it in a moisturizing deep conditioner (Cholesterol) with a little extra virgin olive oil and left it in overnight.

After all was said and done, I wish I had just done Clairol Luminize at home and then put a semi-permanent over it to achieve the color I wanted, countless ladies have seen success with that on LHCF it would have been cheaper, and gentler. My mom and my aunt encouraged me first not to get the color, then they encouraged me to go and get it professionally done if I do go for it….in my heart of hearts I knew I was fully capable of doing the color myself but I let other’s voices become more important then my own (never a good thing). Now that I shared my experience with them they both expressed regret at not believing that I could handle it on my own.

What this experience taught me was that very, very VERY few people know how to handle hair as tightly coiled as mine, (which I plan to do something about), I am fully capable of doing anything I need to do with regard to my hair, myself, if you insist on going to a salon…..HAVE A STRATEGY. What I could have done to spare myself the drama was to insist on keeping my hair in like 20 braids, bring my own deep conditioner, saturate my hair with it, throw it in 6 jumbo twists and leave. But I really just can’t ever roll the dice with my hair like that again….I’ll be doing all my subsequent color touchups.

I found out about this process/product from a helpful poster on on a hair forum. Its called Clairol Luminize and its said to be a gentle conditioning lightener. It lifts hair one level per use so its very gradual.

I really did thorough research on it and it really seems to be the real deal and not particularly harsh on the hair

Now that I’m wearing and enjoying this afro extension style with auburn and copper highlights on the crown and brown underneath….I think I’m ready for the real deal and ready to do this on my own natural hair. I need a change and its time for me to step out of my box.

It will be scary as I’m used to always being super conservative with my hair and not having to do much to/with it….but I really want a change and to challenge myself to step outside the box.

I’m gonna go for it….wish me luck everyone! I’m buying it today!

Tree Braids was a protective style I’d been looking forward to tackling for some time now. My mom didn’t want any straight hair or loose curls…she definitely wanted kinky or curly….so we decided to use Brazilian braid hair in Auburn and Brown and it came out absolutely spectacular.

One thing I love about the technique of tree braiding is that it provides a much smoother flatter finish then other techniques making the extension hair appear to be the persons own naturally growing hair that much more.

Let me know what you think of the look! Here are the pix ;)

Welcome to my bold, colorful Sabina Karlsson inspired look!

I absolutely adore it and will be returning to this look regularly. I blowdried my hair throughly on hot and high and braided my hair down in this pattern:

Fluffed each piece out and attached the hair and Voila!

I used Marley braid hair. On myself I simply did them as crochet braids….on someone else I would do a combination of tree braids along the hair line and crochet in the rest.

The maintenance is almost non-existent with this style, I clip it up when I’m going into the shower (no shower cap) and I just lift one side lay my head down and go to sleep at night (no scarf).

At first it was a bit of a shock because I didn’t expect it to come out so light. But I grew to appreciate it. When I went to the city on Monday all I got were rave reviews, men showering compliments and questions on just how I pulled this off.

I really feel like this may be “my color” and I will go for this color combo with my real hair in the near future.

Let me know what you think about the color, the shape the size….anything! Thanks for reading guys.

These are a lovely set of loc extensions done on a beautiful young lady named Iriane. She opted to have them be shoulder length and it was a great decision….they’re absolutely beautiful and so natural. Let me know what you think of her look!

Hey yall! So I’ve been so busy lately that I’ve really needed a good protective style I could put my hair away in. I’ve decided that I’ll do a layered multi-hued fro and keep that in for a coupla weeks.

My inspiration for this look was the swedish model Sabina Karlsson.  One of her pictures were so striking that I just HAD to have the look here is my inspiration:

I will be getting started on this look today so look out for the premiere of this look in the coming days! ;)

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share some of my latest work. This time we used freetress bohemian curl hair in 4/30. She wanted it shorter so I did this beautiful layered curly fro look for her which she loved. The copper highlights looked absolutely stunning on her we couldn’t be happier with the results.

Anywhoo here are the pix! lemme know what you think! I just ADORE the layers.

This is a recent style I did for a beautiful young lady named Natalie. Curly Crochet braids….we did them Waist Length for her.

I didn’t take a pic of my braiding pattern but it was essentially the same way you’d braid hair for a weave…I made sure all her hair was braided down so it would have a beautiful smooth look to it. Here are the pix…enjoy!
