Always Always ALWAYS sleep with a satin or silk scarf on your head or on your pillow case. Cotton dries out hair and causes breakage so don’t wear it on your head or on your bed. Satin and silk will not absorb any of the moisture from your hair and will allow your moisturizers to last much longer.
Satin or Silk……thats it!!

You gotta have your ceramic Flat iron!!! It must must MUST be a 100% fully ceramic flat Iron when your striaghtening. Remember how badly those press jobs your mom did when you were little came out? Especially the ones from the stove.
Here’s why:
a) Metal heats unevenly which results in hot spots which can cause burnt off patches
b) The metal never seals the hair’s cuticle in the striaightening process leaving it vulverable to frizz at any point
Always buy a flat iron that states that it has 100% ceramic plates they have to tell the truth on that on the packaging….many of them when you really read the packaging on the front or in the back it will state that all they have are ceramic coated plates…thats not good enough the coating will peel off within the first three uses.
On the more affordable low end the conair flat iron they sell in the drug store or beauty supply store for like $60 it was one of the best I’ve used does the job gets the hair straight its durable and doesnt damage on the higher end I’ve heard great things about Sedu and Maxiglide.

I think far too often, we complain about our hair not being where we wish it was.
We say my hair is the worst, my hair is so this my hair is so that….. I can’t stand my hair.
When we know its an over the top exaggeration. Negativity and proclaiming what your hair can’t do wont help you reach your goals.
Let’s take this time out now to give thanks for the hair we have. The hair we were blessed with, lets take this moment to emphasize the positive, what we love that our hair does, what we love that our hair has the ability to do.
Appreciate your many hair blessings

Humidity, the media our culture and our foremothers told us its the worst and it ruins hairstyles, but thats not the complete truth.
Humidity ruins your hair style only if you let it. On my heathy hair journey if theres anything I learned it’s that you need to work with instead of fighting against your hair or the elements. Make the most out of any weather conditions. Check the weather at the beginning of every week and guage if its gonna be more humid or more moderate to dry weather and style accordingly. Do styles that you love the look of and also respond well to that particular weather condition…..don’t just straighten your hair because that’s what you’re used to doing if you know the weather will just make it revert, do a braid-out, do some kind of alternative that will both protect your hair and help you retain growth.

Having issues with shedding? Just wanna reduce the amount of shed hairs in your weekly wash?
Well Garlic is the solution for you!!!
You can either take garlic supplements internally (Please take the unscented version lol) which is the most effective
Or you can also use products that have garlic in them like Alter Ego Products they’re said to be incredibly effective.
Or you can make a do it yourself deep treatment mixing honey garlic olive oil or your favorite hair oils apply to the hair and scalp and leave it for 25-45 minutes. Be aware that Garlic has a strong smell and there’s a chance, you wont be able to mask the smell for a while if you do it topically.
That’s how you can significantly reduce shedding!!

As pretty as hair color can be, we all know how taxing it can be on the hair especially hair types that tend to be dry to begin with, so many women are turning to alternatives to permanent color.
The two best, most popular alternatives from my research are Henna and Honey.
Henna is an awesome all natural alternative to harsh Bleaches and Dyes. It acts as both a Colorant and a Protien Deep Treatment leaving the hair stronger leaving the strands feeling thicker and conditioned. If your hair is dark, it will not make it lighter, rather it will have a rinse like effect that you can see mostly in the sun, if your hair is light brown colored to grey, you can get vibrant color out of this. Henna is also used to darken the hair and leaves incredible shine afterward. I’ve also seen women with like a dull dark brown get nice color from henna.
Honey is a known natural hair lightener that I’ll begin using shortly to lighten my hair. Here is an article explaining it in detail on Associated Content by Kelly Spies:
Ingredients
1/2 cup raw uncooked honey (Jarrah honey works best)
1 1/2 cup distilled water
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon or cardamom
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Saran Wrap
Swimming Cap
How It Works
Honey and cinnamon are both natural peroxide agents. When combined together they help lift ….. even commercial chemical dyes. The honey only acts as a peroxide through dilution which is where the distilled water comes in. Some people have reported using tap water in their honey recipes but did not have nearly the same success.
Cardamom, cinnamon and extra virgin olive oil are peroxide boosters. Since different honeys produce different amounts of peroxide qualities one or more peroxide boosters are recommended. Cardamom, cinnamon and extra virgin olive oil are 3 that can be combined in the recipe with no ill effects on the hair.
………………………….One the honey recipe is mixed together it is best if it is left to sit out for about an hour to allow the peroxide levels to be released. It is possible to allow the honey to release the peroxide levels while it is on the hair but there is no guarantee that it will happen evenly under such conditions.
To coat the hair with the honey recipe you can use a root applicator bottle, spray bottle or a brush. I did try to pour it over my head and while that worked I lost some of the recipe down the drain.
And there you have it, natural conditioning alternatives to harsh bleaches and Dyes
Hope that was helpful! LOVE to read your feedback.

- Trimming your ends makes your hair grow faster
- NOPE trimming your ends keeps your hair looking neat and gets rid of split ends but it has no correlation to growth. I trim my hair like once a year or once every two years and my hair has been growing out nicely. I may start to do it twice a year but it has NO correlation to growth.
- Stretching your relaxers will make your hair break off
- Wrong the only reason anyone’s hair breaks off is lack of knowledge on how to properly care for one’s hair. Stretching relaxers properly will result in longer stronger thicker hair
- Greasing or Oiling my scalp will make my Hair Grow
- To some extent, Yes. There ARE certain ingredients that when applied topically can potentially double your normal hair growth rate especially if you combine them with supplements that will boost hair growth. A few examples are sulphur, miconozole nitrate, and megatek (I’ll be doing a separate post dedicated to boosting hair growth rates shortly). However don’t be fooled, the VAST majority of hair greases out there are not good for your scalp or your hair. Most hair greases and oils contain cheap fillers like mineral oil and petrolatum which may actually clog the pores.
- There are some hair types that are so kinky and unruly that they’re too unmanageable and must be permed to be tamed.
- Completely FALSE and I hear this sorry excuse ALL the time. Just because you can’t care for your hair the same way a person with straight hair would doesn’t mean that your hair is unmanageable. It simply means you need to get educated on how to care for YOUR hair texture and YOUR specific hair needs. Educate yourself on the best detangling conditioners, on the best moisturizers, on the best protein treatments for strength and some bangin protective styles and your hair will be growing down your back before you know it.
- When I wear a weave, I don’t have to care for my own real hair because I have a weave on.
- Wrong. Take that time and get the most out of it!! Take that time period that your hair is in a weave and use it to deep treat your hair, use it as a time to give your natural hair a break and moisturize and seal regularly get some real growth out of that time so that eventually, your hair will be the same length and thickness as the weave!
