How To: Stay Cute as you Deep Condition!

by Mona-Lisa on September 20, 2010

I was researching hommade deep conditioning methods on YouTube and I found this. (you can skip to the middle if you want)

She says its her hommade heating cap, but honestly, I love the way it looks so intentional and put together as she DC’s! As you can see… she uses a tee shirt to make a makeshift headwrap and uses it as insulation for her DC’s that she sometimes leaves in for a whole day.

I think this is a great way to stay cute as you DC. Maybe you want to DC for a whole day and dont wanna look crazy or maybe you just dont have time to rinse out your Dc and have to run out. I think this is a great way to still look presentable while your hair is getting moisturized. Hope that tip gave some of you an idea on how to stay cute while you condition!

Flexi-Rods on My Pressed Hair, I’m in LOVE!

by Mona-Lisa on September 14, 2010

So I did my new straightening technique and my hair was perfectly straight leaving the house but the humidity had plans of its own so my hair reverted a bit during the day.

My new go-to for reverted pressed hair? Flexi Rods! Put those sucka’s in (taught to tight) over night or even for a full day and I PROMISE you your hair will go right back to silky and front like nothin ever happened lol its great. All I used was extra virgin coconut oil.

(Put more rods then pictured here….put 10 ideally)

The Unlikely Product that Turned my Skin Around

by Mona-Lisa on July 14, 2010

Hey guys! So this is a little different then what I usually post about but I really wanted to share this with you all because it truly turned my skin around in a matter of days.

I have oily acne prone skin. And when I say oily….I mean OILY. I’ve been using Proactiv since high school but in recent years my skin just stopped being responsive to it. Plus I just hated paying that high price over and over so I stopped.

I’d literally been on the verge of just buying proactiv again because I was at my wits end. But then one of my best friends suggested to me that I try Calamine lotion as an over night mask and that it could really help with breakouts by drying the acne out. I was VERY skeptical as I’ve been dealing with bad breakouts for months on end but I started using it and saw results in a matter of days. It really shrank the pimples down….my pores are getting smaller, my skin is smooth, the blemishes are fading, my brother just asked me today if i was wearing foundation and I had a bare face…..it was awesome.

This didn’t change the oiliness of my skin but it does absorb the oil from your face for a few hours which is nice. This is also super easy to sleep in because it doesn’t rub off easily.

I am just IN LOVE with this product I’m so elated to be back to the point that I don’t need foundation, I just put gloss and a little eyebrow corrector and I’m fresh faced and out the door. Its been so long since I’ve been able to do that.

As much as I love this I’m trying to keep things varied so my skin doesn’t get too used to anything. So my next adventure will be in the oil cleansing method. I will be back with my experience with that next!

So if you have similar issues to mine and you’re struggling as I was, you may want to consider giving Calamine Lotion a try, it very well may knock your socks off.

Hey lovely BMPers!! I straightened my hair again with the intention of taking fresh progress pix and getting a trim this weekend, well I didnt have time to get that trim and I’ve decided that my splits will for the most part resolve themselves, they usually do lol

Lisa's Pictures 137I washed with NourishSpa Shampoo/Conditioner. Then I applied LeKair Cholesterol to my hair generously put on my plastic cap and Deep Conditioned with heat for about 35 minutes I enjoyed some tea and Italian bread in the meantime.

Lisa's Pictures 140These are my tools: hot tools blowdryer, hot tools hot comb, conair ceramic flat iron, ordinary spray bottle, ic fantasia heat protectant spray & serum, tape, fine toothed comb.

I taped a fine toothed comb to the side of my flat iron on the base loosely to make the comb chase method easier to implement…it worked flawlessly.

Lisa's Pictures 119Look @ how straight I get it with nothing but a press n flat iron! The funny thing is, I sweat when I sleep, but it seems as long as my hair is pin curled…..I’m good to go and my hair will look fresh and lovely until my next wash.

Lisa's Pictures 120Length check! My blue shirt covers my back, the white undershirt covers half my butt so dont mind that. I think I’ve achieved MBL! Woooo! Being natural with the right techniques has brought nothing but goodness to me.

HUGE thanks to all that have fanned me on facebook I’m amazed at how quickly that has grown in just a few months and all that have followed on twitter you mean the world to me.

Night Time Scarves Can Make or Break Your Hair

by Mona-Lisa on September 3, 2009

Always Always ALWAYS sleep with a satin or silk scarf on your head or on your pillow case. Cotton dries out hair and causes breakage so don’t wear it on your head or on your bed. Satin and silk will not absorb any of the moisture from your hair and will allow your moisturizers to last much longer.

Satin or Silk……thats it!!

Take a Moment, Give thanks for the Hair You have

by Mona-Lisa on September 1, 2009

DSCN1681I think far too often, we complain about our hair not being where we wish it was.

We say my hair is the worst, my hair is so this my hair is so that….. I can’t stand my hair.

When we know its an over the top exaggeration. Negativity and proclaiming what your hair can’t do wont help you reach your goals.

Let’s take this time out now to give thanks for the hair we have. The hair we were blessed with, lets take this moment to emphasize the positive, what we love that our hair does, what we love that our hair has the ability to do.

Appreciate your many hair blessings :)
